New Orleans native Robert Eustis embodies the culture, musicianship and heart that defines the Crescent City. In 2019, Eustis began working on demos for his folk/roots album, The Tipping Point, with producer Andre Bohren. An album release party will be held at Chickie Wah Wah, 2828 Canal Street, on Wednesday, March 30, at 7 p.m.
“Andre is able to make me sound like, well, me,” said Eustis. “Andre was able to make the songs and the performances better without changing the essence of the songs.”
The COVID-19 shutdown created a space for Eustis to develop several original compositions. The pandemic was the inspiration behind the title track, “The Tipping Point,” featuring Aurora Nealand on saxophone.
The Tipping Point is now available on all digital platforms, including Bandcamp, Spotify and Apple Music, and in record shops in New Orleans.
The album release party at Chickie Wah Wah will include Andre Bohren (drums), David Pomerleau (bass), John Fohl (guitar), Mark Levron (trumpet), Johnny Sansone (accordion and harp), John Odell (bass), Rurik Nunan (violin) and JackCraft (cello). CDs will be available for purchase. Eustis will donate 100 percent of the album sales to Habitat for Humanity.
“The Tipping Point is an attempt to point out that even though we may be near the brink, we will prevail and end up with the triumph of the human spirit,” said Eustis. “Partnering with Habitat is a way I can continuously support our community and their mission.”
Earlier this month, Eustis released a music video for album cut “When The Bus Goes By,” which features a montage of photographs by Elliot Kamenitz. The tune was inspired by playing outdoors at the Flagpole Café on Esplanade Avenue. Hence, when the bus goes by, the music’s gonna die.
