With the addition of the Euclid Records store in the Bywater this past fall, the vinyl record market in New Orleans is at its strongest post-K, with other stores Louisiana Music Factory, Domino Sound Record Shack, Skully’z, Jim Russell Records, the Mushroom, and Peaches still going strong, and artists from Galactic and Preservation Hall to Sun Hotel and Maddie Ruthless releasing their latest recordings on vinyl.
The New Orleans Record Raid, now in its fourth incarnation, has added greatly to this dusty landscape, with sellers both from the stores above as well as private collectors and dealers coming together to peddle their wares under a single roof or tree. Saturday, March 26, the WTUL-sponsored Record Raid returns to Tulane University’s Zimple Quad—the site of its first appearance—at the corner of Broadway and Zimple Street.
More than 20 vendors will be on hand at the fair, including representatives from Euclid Records, Skully’z and Domino Sound, and well-known local dealers Mr. Tyrone, DJ Brice Nice, and WWOZ show host Jivin’ Gene. A special appearance is being made by the Iron Rail Book Collective, forced just after Mardi Gras to shut down the storefront where they had sold punk and experimental LPs and 45s.
The fair is free to attend, but individual record prices will range from $1 to more than your monthly rent. Almost all genres will be represented across the various sellers’ tables, from soul to indie rock to hip-hop to reggae to jazz to punk to indie-Christian-jazz-funk-rap and anything and everything in between. LPs, 45s, 10″s, 78s, cassettes, and even CDs will all be available.
The boxes and crates open at 11 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. More info HERE.
