Seven-piece New Orleans rock/soul band the Revivalists has been described by Rolling Stone as “a Crescent City-rhythm spin on jam-band jubilee.” They released their new album Men Amongst Mountains just about two weeks ago and, fresh off a national tour, will celebrate with a release party at Tipitina’s this Saturday, August 1st.
There’s certainly a lot to celebrate. The album has been met with wide critical and public praise. One week after hitting the streets, it reached #2 New Alternative Albums, #4 Top New Artists Albums (Heatseekers Chart), #30 New Rock Albums, and #79 Top Current Albums on the Billboard Charts.
You can read an OffBeat review of their previous album City of Sound here. (Originally released in 2012, the album was re-released last year with eight new tracks.)
Whereas City of Sound aimed at a more polished, studio sound, the band wanted to go for something a little more raw and live-sounding with Men Amongst Mountains. Most tracks were recorded with all of the bandmembers in the same room.
Not a bad decision, as the group is widely known for putting on totally engrossing live shows that are never the same twice. Although the album does a stunning job of translating this raw energy to the studio, you definitely don’t want to miss them in the flesh.
Doors open at 9 p.m. and tickets start at $15. The Tipitina’s box office is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and can be reached at (504) 895-8477.
