A veteran to the New Orleans music scene, Lawrence Fothe has announced his re-entrance after a 10-year hiatus. The singer, songwriter, and guitarist has formed a new band Dagger Down with Paul McDonald (guitar, tambourine), Rick Nelson (bass, strings, keys, guitar), Jonathan Acreneaux (drums), Dennis Hyde (guitar), and Daniel Crane (percussion). Fothe describes their self-titled debut album, Dagger Down, as representative of “all the ideas of what music is supposed to be.. Any type of emotion, any type of experience that you’ve had”, giving people a chance “to identify with certain things they’ve been through.”
The band formed in March 2018 and grew out of what Fothe called “great chemistry”. Their name, he says, “has two meaning”: one being peace, as in putting down the dagger, and the other a reference to “pinpointing what we’re doing right here at this second.” Fothe is a multi-talented New Orleans native, having explored creative outlets as diverse as music, poetry, and acrylic painting. His lifelong love for rock ‘n roll eventually brought him back into the music scene this year.
The album, launched during a release party at Checkpoint Charlie’s on Saturday, September 15, 2018, features Fothe with help from guitarist Paul
McDonald, bassist Rick Nelson, drummer Jonathan Arceneaux, guitarist Dennis Hyde and percussionist Daniel Crane.
Dagger Down was released last week on September 14 and is now available for streaming on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, and Soundcloud, and available for 12” vinyl purchase on daggerdown.net.
