In New York last Friday and Saturday nights, December 3-4, the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Opera House played host to a rare treat of many of New Orleans’ finest musicians on stage together. With Trombone Shorty as musical director, and his band Orleans Avenue providing the backing music for the house, the latest installment of the “Red Hot” series celebrated Red Hot + New Orleans with an all-NOLA cast. On hand were the Rebirth Brass Band, Ivan Neville, Kermit Ruffins, Irma Thomas, Marc Broussard, Mannie Fresh, Partners-N-Crime, Ledisi, Roger Lewis, Dr. John and more. OffBeat reader Gerry Hardy was in attendance Friday night, and sent us these photos from what would have been a very special concert even back home in New Orleans.
