On Saturday, July 13, over 30 vendors will gather at the New Orleans Jazz Market to display LPs, 45s, CDs and cassettes. Record Raid happens a few times a year and has become New Orleans’ largest vintage vinyl show.
Hunter King started Record Raid in 2010 to continue the success of the WTUL Record Fair. Each year, vendors such as Terry Pattison and Brian Poust help administer the fair.
Fair vendors often include record shops, private collectors and people who want to sell their old music. Anything from new releases to vintage records can be found at the show. Vendors sell memorabilia as well. Along with music and memorabilia sales, the event is also near the Jazz Market, coffee bar, mimosas and food venues on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard.
Throughout the years of its operation, Record Raid helped several local vendors get their start. Disko Obscura, Nola Mix, Lafayette’s Lagniappe Records and Euclid Records all began their careers as Record Raid vendors. Recently, out of state record vendors have contributed to Record Raid. Keith Glass, founder of Mobile Records, is one out of state record salesman happy to contribute.
DJs are set to spin throughout the event, showcasing a variety of music types, such as rock, R&B, country, and more. For anyone arriving at 10 a.m., admission is $5. Admission is free anytime after 11 a.m.
