RAW Collective presents New Orleans Natural Born Art at Kaleidoscope

Want to be chic? Then you’ve gotta go RAW. The RAW art show, that is.

RAW, a national collective of “natural born artists”  and indie arts organization “for artists, by artists,” will host the New Orleans edition of their Kaleidoscope series on Thursday, June 13, from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. at the Eiffel Society, bringing an art, music, fashion, photography, beauty and performance showcase out in “the RAW.”

RAW’s mission is to provide up-and-coming artists of various mediums with the tools, resources, and exposure needed to cultivate and inspire creativity. This mission is carried out, in part, through the production of events such as Kaleidoscope that push the envelope of art show expectations while constantly highlighting new or emerging local artists, rather than those already more established.

Sylvia T art at RAW

New Orleans artist Sylvia T. shows at RAW at Eiffel Society on June 13.

Unlike traditional art openings and typical gallery shows, RAW meshes sound and movement with the visual. New Orleans Kaleidoscope master of ceremonies, comedian Corey Mack hosts, with RAW DJ, Dixxxy/Deity on the turntables. Live musical performances from Eugene, Cfreedom, Shay Briggs and Stefan will paint a cross-section of local soul, funk, hip-hop and spoken word, with a trapeze performance by Summer Baldwin and dance performance by Katy. Strolling fashion and accessories by Donna Guidry, Naomi Celestin of ReStrung Jewelry and a runway show by Emily Riché (a NOLA Fashion Week veteran) provide fashion flair to the gathering.

RAW visual art installations by Bellavia, Sylvia T., Becky Fos, Charlo Charlo and Patrick Tiek and Charlie Vaughn Jr. aka Uptownz Illest promise to re-invent the already eclectic design of the Eiffel Society venue. Vaughn is an uptown-based artist who designed early album cover art for late New Orleans hip-hop icon, Soulja Slim (known coincidentally for his song, “Give It 2 ‘Em Raw”) and has experimented in several mediums, including television, music and radio throughout his artistic career. Photography will also be presented by Tokyo Stone, Veronica Ali, Krystal Alayne and Crytsal Shelton.

The event will also offer an interactive photo booth, specialty cocktails bar, and food from The Skillet, a Washington State-based food truck that serves poutine and specialy grass-fed beef hamburgers – surely keeping even the eats as interesting as the art.

A preview of the featured artists and the purchase of presale tickets at $10 each can be found here. Tickets are $15, cash only at the door.
