Purple Takeover 2024: A Celebration of Prince’s Legacy

New Orleans is gearing up for a vibrant and music-filled weekend with the Purple Takeover New Orleans 2024, a celebration of Prince’s birthday. Running from June 7 to June 9, 2024, the event is presented by Soul Sister and Ace Hotel New Orleans, the official hotel sponsor. Guests can book discounted rooms at Ace Hotel using the promo code PURPLE.

Friday, June 7:

  • Prince Day at Ace Hotel New Orleans: Kick off the celebration at Ace Hotel, 600 Carondelet St., from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Hosted by DJ Soul Sister, with music by DJ Vintage, attendees are encouraged to wear something purple. The event is free and features Prince-themed specialty cocktails and treats, with a percentage of cocktail proceeds benefiting Covenant House New Orleans.
  • Purple Rain 40th Anniversary Screening: Prytania Theatre Uptown, 5339 Prytania St., will screen the iconic film “Purple Rain” at 10 p.m. A second screening will take place on Saturday, June 8, also at 10 p.m.

Saturday, June 8:

  • Purple Takeover: A Prince Celebration with DJ Soul Sister: Join the party at Tipitina’s, 501 Napoleon Ave., from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Dance to all Prince and Prince family jams and b-sides, featuring the Lovesexy Dancers. A portion of ticket sales will benefit Covenant House New Orleans. Tickets are available for general admission and a premium balcony experience, which includes a private balcony view, limited seating, and a catered dessert bar.

Sunday, June 9:

  • Talking Purple with C Liegh McInnis: From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Three Keys at Ace Hotel, 600 Carondelet St., C Liegh McInnis will discuss his book, “The Lyrics of Prince: A Literary Look at a Creative, Musical Poet, Philosopher, and Storyteller.” This event is free and open to the public.
  • Purple Poetry Circle: Also at Three Keys at Ace Hotel, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., poets Carol Bebelle, Christian Lee, C Liegh McInnis, Mona Lisa Saloy, José Torres-Tama, and Nikki Ummel will perform. Hosted by Denise Frazier and Megan Holt, the event includes an open mic session and a Prince-themed Folding Story activity.
