The Prytania Theatre in New Orleans will celebrate the life of Muhammad Ali–who passed away last week at the age of 74–with multiple screenings of the 1977 Ali biopic, The Greatest.
Ali played himself in the film, which also featured performances by Robert Duvall, James Earl Jones and Ernest Borgine. The movie’s boxing sequences were particularly easy to pull off, as the filmmakers simply used footage from the fights that were represented.
The first screening will take place on Friday, June 10 at 5pm. Screenings will take place at the same time every day through Wednesday, June 15. Each showing will be preceded by a brief tribute produced by the Prytania.
In related news, NOLA.com reports that the AMC Elmwood Palace will be screening the Oscar-nominated 2001 drama Ali at 12:50pm and 6:55pm each day from Friday, June 10 to Wednesday, June 15. The film, which stars Will Smith as Ali, is being shown in theaters across the country as part of a nationwide Sony Pictures re-release.
