Did you catch the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Trombone Shorty at last night’s Grammy Awards? Lost in all the talk about Kendrick Lamar’s powerful indictment of mass incarceration, Adele’s technical difficulties and Lady Gaga’s David Bowie tribute is the fact that the ceremony began with something of a second line.
As the pre-show event came to a close, the awards kicked off with a little brass music courtesy of these two New Orleans institutions. The artist’s were joined by Foo Fighters frontman–and occasional collaborator–Dave Grohl, who took up the bass drum as the parade made its way down the Staples Center’s red carpet.
