Poose the Puppet, the adult-oriented multimedia magician and puppeteer, hasn’t just made waves on the Gulf Coast — he recently shook up the all star celebrity judges of NBC’s America’s Got Talent on the West Coast. However, it appears only two of the A-lister crew were interested and/or impressed in what the local multilingual puppeteer and performer had to say.
Benjamin Martin, who portrays Poose and her plethora of positive purpose-driven pals, utilized his fluency in Spanish to earn his way on the stage to meet Colombian siren, Sofía Vergara. (Martin lived and worked in Latin America for several years, honing his linguistic chops. He even has developed a Spanish-language puppet show aimed at kids.) He also practiced a bit of German to dazzle the Rhineland beauty, Heidi Klum. However, by the time he made it to the stage in front of a huge studio audience dressed as an alien hot dog named Zeepglorp, only Klum and AGT Host, Terry Crews, were enthused. The British born Simon Cowell was cranky and cynical as always and not even Howie Mandel, who voiced the sweet and kindhearted Gizmo mogwai in the Gremlins series, was less and less like his fuzzy friend when it came to cheering on Poose.
The audience also seemed confused but Poose took it all in stride. Once Simon slammed his buzzer telling Martin’s characters to essentially hit the road, the performer who has appeared on My Amazing Cheap Date: New Orleans and toured extensively in the United States and Europe, took it in humorous stride. As USA Today reports, all of the judges X’d out the Mudlark Theatre performer. Says Martin: “I went in with very low expectations because I’m a weirdo so I just had fun with it. It isn’t what I normally do but this is what was co-written and approved by AGT and I wanted to have this unique experience. Everyone at AGT was extremely professional, welcoming and kind and I had a great time and got to learn a lot. No regrets. 10/10 would be an alien hotdog again!”
