The Voodoo Music + Art Experience may be the biggest event in town this Halloween, but it’s far from the only one. Whether you’re on the prowl for a vampire-themed ball, looking for a fun show or just trying to read a good book, you’ll have plenty of options on October 31.
But have no fear on this All Hallows Eve! We’ve compiled a list of some the most exciting things that are going on around New Orleans this Saturday, and we hope it’ll help you make your pick.
Popular electronic dance music producer RL Grime–aka Henry Steinway–will headline Hell’s Gala when the celebration returns to The Sugar Mill in New Orleans’ Warehouse District. The night will feature an opening set from SBCR of The Bloody Beetroots, as well as other supporting sets from Michael Medina, Tristan Dufrene and Paul Tabry. Fans will also be to attend an after show at the nearby Republic with Klutch, C-Lab and Michael Medina. Tickets for the Hell’s Gala are available here.
Endless Night: New Orleans Vampire Ball
The award-winning Vampire Ball will once again take over the House of Blues on Halloween night. The masquerade will surely attract revelers of all stripes with its fully immersive experience, which organizers liken to an underground Venetian Ball during Carnival. Serious costumes are required of all attendees–no exceptions–so make sure to check out the event’s dress code before you join the fun. Committing this late in the game will be tough, however, as general admission tickets to the Vampire Ball have already sold out.
Louisiana Book Festival
The 12th annual Louisiana Book Festival will bring numerous authors and exhibitors to the State Library of Louisiana in downtown Baton Rouge this Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Bibliophiles will be able to hear talks by writers from all across the literary spectrum at the event, while author and Treme co-writer Tom Piazza will be honored with the 2015 Louisiana Writer Award.
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
Restaurant and Latin American cultural center Casa Borrega will host a fiesta celebrating Dia de los Muertos, the Mexican holiday of the dead that coincides with Halloween and All Saints Day. The event will feature costumed guests and a performance by Fredy Omar con Su Banda.
Too Many Shows to Count
Looking for a good old fashioned concert to get you through the night? There’s plenty of those to go around this Halloween.
For instance, Galactic will return to Tipitina’s for their annual Halloween throwdown–this time with openers the New Breed Brass Band. Over at d.b.a., local prog-funk quintet Earphunk will take things well past midnight, while Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen will host an Absolute Monster Halloween at the Maple Leaf with special guest Nigel Hall. Gravity A, Mike Dillon and the Stooges Brass Band are scheduled to hold things down at the Blue Nile, and metal fans will be able to get their fill with Mastodon at the Civic Theatre.
Of course, that’s only a small taste of who’s playing across town this Halloween. Make sure to check out our Events page for comprehensive look at your musical options on All Hallows Eve, or any day of the year for that matter.
