At this year’s WWOZ Piano Night, the annual Jazz Fest season concert will feature an all-star lineup of the best pianists in New Orleans history. For 31 years, Piano Night has showcased premier talent but this year’s event will be of special importance, as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
On Monday, April 29 (between the two Jazz Fest weekends), the House of Blues will host Piano Night. Jon Cleary, Marcia Ball, Ellis Marsalis, John “Papa” Gros, Jesse McBride Tom McDermott, Joe Krown, David Boeddinghaus, Nigel Hall, Craig Adams, Tom Worrell, and Josh Paxton will perform.
“With the 50th anniversary of Jazz Fest, and Piano Night entering its forth decade, we knew we needed to pull out all the stops to make this year’s event the best yet,” said Joe Krown, noted pianist and Piano Night producer. “With this line-up, and several special unique additions to the night, we have done just that,” he said.
On the following evening, April 30, Ball and Krown will host a private dinner and intimate performance at the famed Ralph’s on the Park, with six tickets to the event auctioned off during Piano Night’s silent auction. Also included in the Piano Night silent auction will be three pieces created by noted New Orleans artist John Bukaty. Mr Bukaty will live paint three pianists as they are onstage, capturing the artists and energy of Piano Night for guests to take home.
“Last year’s Piano Night was a complete sellout, demonstrating that for many music lovers, Piano Night is a highlight of JazzFest week,” said Ruth Chouest, chair of Piano Night. “We are thrilled to have so many enthusiastic supporters, and think this line-up will make them proud.”
Tickets for Piano Night range from $50 general admission tickets to $150 VIP tickets (including reserved seating and cuisine by Jaques-Imo’s), plus other VIP packages.
