Ty Segall & the Muggers took over One Eyed Jack’s on Saturday night. The prolific musician, who is touring in support of his eighth album, has drawn sizable crowds lately as stories of his stage antics spread. Segall’s abrasive performance hinged on an off-kilter narrative as he embraced several personas, from howling frontman to moody baby (umbilical chord included) and what looked like a garage-rock version of the Grim Reaper. Opening the night were CFM–Charles Moothart’s new solo project–and NOLA-based four-piece BottomFeeders. The bands complemented each other nicely, offering different takes on guitar-heavy, psychedelic sounds that culminated in Segall’s churning encore.
