The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival continued with a mix of joy and mourning on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Mourning as several celebrations in tribute to the late Russell Batiste Jr., including a tribute by his family on the Congo Square stage as well as a jazz funeral parade across the fairgrounds, combined with the shocking news of Dumpstaphunk’s bassist Nick Daniels III’s passing.
Joy, as New Orleans knows how to handle grief, and the celebration of culture and heritage went on, with a ton of music from Nicholas Payton, Molly Tuttle, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Big Freedia, Boyfriend, Irma Thomas and so many more.
