What many refer to as “locals Thursday” of the 2014 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival was almost too good to be true.
Everywhere you turned, beauty was in the air. From Big Chief Donald Harrison Jr.’s smooth melodies and pulsing funk beats to the almost ethereal melding of voices into perfect harmony as Tizumba & Tambor Mineiro of Minas Gerais-Brazil played in the Blues tent to Phillip Manuel’s amazing renditions of classic Beatles songs.
Elsewhere, Billy Iuso and the Restless Natives rocked the Lagniappe stage, Johnny Sansone combined squeezed his way through a great set, and you could see the sheer joy on Dr. Lonnie Smith’s face as he performed in the Jazz tent.
