George Porter Jr. and His Runnin’ Pardners played the historic and intimate Shepherdstown Opera House in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, on Wednesday, June 18.
The 105 year old, New Orleans friendly venue hosts a lot of familiar talent like Bonerama and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, to name a few, when they are touring the northeast.
There are only eight rows of original seats and a small dance floor, so the audience is guaranteed a cozy, up close and personal experience. Owner Lawrence Cumbo is a documentary film maker and made the feature Rocking The Opera House: Dr. John for the Smithsonian Channel.
The Runnin’ Pardners played two sets of Meters tunes alongside well chosen covers such as “Here But I’m Gone” by Curtis Mayfield and “City of New Orleans” by Steve Goodman. The second set saw a packed dance floor and very appreciative crowd.
