The clowns and superheroes of the Emergency Circus crawled through the art galleries of Saint Claude Avenue before performing with local collective BateBunda on Saturday, February 13.
The event was a benefit for The Emergency Circus, a non-profit composed of circus performers from around the globe that was recently sent to entertain Syrian refugees in the camps of Lesbos, Greece.
“The Emergency Circus Strikes Back” took place at Castillo Blanco, the Krewe of Chewbacchus‘ eclectic Bywater headquarters. Brazilian music collective BateBunda led a group of dancers, clowns, superheroes and onlookers through the open galleries of this second Saturday of the month.
The non-profit, founded in 2012, is led by New Orleans resident and superhero Clay Mazing, who is set to to follow refugees from the Syrian borders to camps in Europe this April.
Local performers from Cirque Copine and Vaude D’Gras also joined the show, which featured juggling, illusions, songs and more in the style of the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus, whose leader, Ryan Ballard, helped launch the event.
