George Porter Jr., Eric Krasno and Big Sam Williams collaborated with Tank & the Bangas for an exciting performance in a lot next to the historic Eagle Saloon in downtown New Orleans yesterday.
The show was a benefit for the Eagle Saloon Initiative, a new project that aims to raise money for, and awareness of, efforts to restore athe landmark. The Eagle Saloon is one of the last early 20th century jazz halls left standing in the city, and a rare gem for a neighborhood that lost much of its flavor during mid-20th century redevelopment. The saloon–located at 401 South Rampart Street–was once a hot spot for early jazz legends like Buddy Bolden, Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton.
