Norfolk Virginia had a very familiar look, taste, and sound to anyone from the Crescent City during the 26th annual Bayou Boogaloo & Cajun Food Festival.
The temperatures were in the upper 90’s, WWOZ was sponsoring a stage, Chris “Shaggy” Davis was boiling crawfish, giant ocean bound ships processed by down the adjacent Elizabeth River, and there was plenty of New Orleans music on hand.
Preservation Hall Jazz Band headlined a stellar lineup that also included George Porter Jr. and Runnin’ Pardners, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Cha Wa, The Iguanas, Sonny Landreth, Meschiya Lake & the Little Big Horns, CJ Chenier, and two sets from the Hot 8 Brass Band.
Located at Town Point Park in Downtown Norfolk right along the Elizabeth River, the festival is full of New Orleans artisans displaying and selling their work, booth after booth of Louisiana food offerings, Abita beer, and of course the music that binds fans of New Orleans culture together like glue.
