Donald Harrison, Delfeayo Marsalis, Germaine Bazzle, Charlie Gabriel, Big Sam, Sasha Masakowski, James Andrews, Detroit Brooks, Branden Lewis, Joe Dyson, Sullivan Fortner, John Michael Bradford, Jasen Weaver, Dr. Michael White & The Liberty Jazz Band are all confirmed musical performers for December 28’s Resurrection Ball Holiday Fundraiser at the Joy Theater. The event will be headlined by The Perdido Street Legacy Band.
The Resurrection Ball Holiday Fundraiser aims to restore the landmark Eagle Saloon, constructed in 1851 and sitting unused on S. Rampart St. Considered to be the first place Buddy Bolden first performed and improvised a style that would become jazz, the building is in dire need of re-stabilized.
Put on by the Eagle Saloon Initiative, Winter Circle Productions and The Joy Theater, the Resurrection Ball will “commence with a performance from Dr. Michael White and the Liberty Jazz Band, a group specializing in the traditional sounds of New Orleans. Following this performance, a new band, assembled specifically for the occasion and led by saxophonist and jazz legend Donald Harrison, Jr., will perform a diverse set of music from across the spectrum of New Orleans musical history.”
Tickets for the Thursday, December 28, all-ages event range from $30 to $150 and can be purchased here. Doors open at 8 p.m.
