The Helis Foundation John Scott Center has announced the return of the highly anticipated Pass It On New Orleans Open Mic Showcase during the popular White Linen Night event.
On Saturday, August 5, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Pass It On will host several performances at the Helis Foundation John Scott Center (938 Lafayette St.). Whether you’re a seasoned poetry enthusiast or a newcomer to the world of spoken word, Pass It On invites individuals from all walks of life to observe or participate in spoken word poetry and live music. The event has free admission for the showcase. This year’s event will feature performances from local spoken word poets Lee Williams, Daiquiri Jones, and Alina Allen. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit Eventbrite and RSVP in advance to secure a spot and receive additional information.
The event is put together by The Art Funds of The Helis Foundation, which works to advance access to the arts for the community through contributions that sustain operations for, provide free admission to, and underwrite major exhibitions and special projects of institutions within the Greater New Orleans area.
In addition to the Pass It On Open Mic, the Julia Street Block Party will occur yet again from 5-10 p.m. between the 300-600 blocks of Julia Street, featuring more than two dozen local restaurants and bars, live music, and art installations as a part of the usual White Linen Night festivities which New Orleanians have seen since 1994.
