Progenitors of New Orleans’ bounce music, Partners-N-Crime (comprised of Kango Slimm and Mr. Meana), will be celebrating 25 years of local hip-hop on November 25. Along with DJ Jubilee, the duo invited a list of hometown heroes to help put on what promises to be a huge party.
Kermit Ruffins, James Andrews, Shamar Allen, 5th Ward Weebie, Khris Royal & Dark Matter, and Amanda Ducorbier will perform at the Joy Theater-hosted concert. Very special guests, The Showboys, will also be in the building for a real treat for hip-hop heads. Originators of bounce music’s ubiquitous “Triggerman” beat, The Showboys could rightfully be described as the godfathers of all rap music to emerge from New Orleans.
In addition to live performances, the event will include an honoring ceremony for PNC and Jubilee, who together helped elevate the local rap scene into the fertile ground that would birth future generations of hip-hop stars. Partners-N-Crime first gained notoriety regionally in the mid-’90s, producing classics such as “Let The Good Times Roll” and “Pump The Party” and more recently “So Attracted.” DJ Jubilee, lovingly referred to as “The King of Bounce,” is known for his energetic live performances and dance crew, as well as creating countless bounce classics including “Back That A$$ Up”, “Jubilee All”, and “Get Ready, Ready.”
Tickets for Partners-N-Crime and DJ Jubilee’s 25th Anniversary Celebration are on sale now and range from $25 to $50. The all-ages event opens at 7.p.m.
