The Overlook Film Festival has officially announced its full lineup for the 2025 edition that takes place April 3–6 at the Prytania Theatres.
The Festival bills itself as “a four-day celebration of all things horror, held in America’s most haunted city, New Orleans. Every spring, genre fans and cinephiles from the world over convene in the heart of the French Quarter, home to countless apparition sightings, voodoo legends, vampire curses and even some lore related to our namesake, horror fiction’s most frightening creation [The Overlook Hotel, one of the “characters” in The Shining]. The festival is produced in partnership with The Prytania Theatres.
Festival director Sheryl Santacruz stated in a press release: “This year’s giant lineup brings into focus all of the ways we love to be scared, regardless of what flavor of spooky is your jam. We can’t wait to join with the greatest, most dedicated genre fans in the world to celebrate this sensation in ways we never imagined possible, all thanks to these brilliant artists.”
With 56 films from 15 countries, the festival will feature 34 feature films and 22 shorts, alongside 12 live events and four immersive experiences. Among the highlights are the highly anticipated Cloud, from renowned Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, and Predators, a compelling documentary by David Osit. Also making waves are The Home, Rosario, LifeHack, and Frewaka, bringing fresh, chilling stories to the screen.
Additionally, the festival will celebrate the works of David Lynch with a retrospective screening of his early short films, as well as a 65th anniversary screening of William Castle’s 13 Ghosts in its original ILLUSION-O format, complete with exclusive “ghost viewers” for a truly interactive experience.
A series of live events will further enrich the festival experience, including Phantom Follies with Zabrecky: A Midnight Spook Show & Film Spectacular, and The Late Great Midnite Spook Show: A Multimedia Illustrated Talk. Horror lovers can also enjoy a Horror Trivia competition, a 16MM Camera Workshop, and an immersive podcast recording with Darren Lynn Bousman.
For those seeking a truly immersive horror experience, Undersigned returns with a psychological thriller that evolves based on audience choices, and the festival’s party scene is set to be unforgettable. Highlights include Splatterday Night at Overlook Film Fest, hosted by electronic artist Destryur, and a special Opening Night Party celebrating Shudder’s 10th anniversary with the Boulet Brothers from Dragula.
With expanded events and a packed film lineup, the Overlook Film Festival promises to deliver an unforgettable weekend for horror fans.
