Three weekends in October will house Oktoberfest NOLA to celebrate the German culture of the Gulf Coast. Now in its new home on the banks of Bayou St. John, this year’s festival will serve up brats, sauerkraut, schnitzel, meatloaf, pork loin, sauerbraten, a variety of German cheeses, large Bavarian-style pretzels, German desserts, and Bavarian nuts for hungry attendees. There will also be a 5K run/walk race with prizes, historical exhibit, and souvenir shop. But it wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without an endless supply of beer. More than 20 variations of Germanic beer will be available in addition to wines and liquor.
This year’s festival kicks off on Friday, October 6, with a very special ceremony and keg tap. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser will be on hand to help Deutsches Haus tap the first keg of the festival season at he Deutsches Haus’ new property at 1700 Moss Street at 6p.m. Festival weekends run October 6 – 7, October 13 – 14 and October 20 – 21 with gates open are on Fridays from 4 p.m. – 11 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 p.m. – 11 p.m. Admission to all dates is $8, with children 12 and under free. Tickets available at the entrance.
