To remain conscious of the health and wellbeing of its supporters, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art has made the decision to host this year’s Magnolia Ball fundraiser as an online silent auction. Bidding for the auction will begin online Monday, June 22 and continue through Sunday, June 28 at 5 p.m.
The silent auction benefits the Ogden Museum and the southern artists whose work is on display in the museum’s exhibitions, “Entwined: Ritual Wrapping” and “Binding in Contemporary Southern Art and Revelations: Recent Photography Acquisitions.” Fifty regional artists and vendors works will be featured in the silent auction, including David Armentor, LCP Clay, Anita Cooke, Karen deClouet, William Dunlap, William Guion, Kappa Horn, Sarah House, Sonya Yong James, and many more.
The first featured exhibit, “Entwined,” pulls inspiration from wrapping and binding traditions of various cultures. Cultural practices like Haitian Voudou, Appalachian broom-making, Calabrian silk production, Peruvian rope coiling, and Congo Nkisi are highlighted in the works of featured Southern artists as materials of symbolic expression and a marker of ancient ritual practice.
“Revelations,” the second exhibit, displays an array of photographs from the early 1900s to the present which have been added to Ogden’s permanent collection. The diverse exhibition features the work of 39 photographers and celebrates southern artists’ contribution to photography.
In the weeks leading up to the event, the Museum will present a series of online artist talks and studio tours highlighting featured artists and their works. As Ogden Museum Executive Director William Pittman Andrews states, “Magnolia Ball is an event that our community looks forward to each summer, and while we’re unable to gather this year, we are excited to host an online silent auction and support Southern artists.”
The Magnolia Ball online silent auction will be held from June 22 to June 28. For more information, click here to visit the official website for the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.
