The Ogden Museum of Southern Art has opened registration for the Ogden Museum Summer Camps, which will take place online this year. Keeping the health and safety of campers and their families in mind, Ogden Museum will transition its summer camp to an online program that allows campers to engage in exciting summer time activities from home.
Ogden will offer a virtual series of individualized camps to kids from 2nd grade to 12th grade, giving campers the opportunity to explore different artistic mediums including photography, painting, printmaking, mixed media, and more. Guided by Museum educators, campers will participate in twice daily online engagements, lessons on Ogden Museum works of art, interactions with other camp goers, fun activities featuring Ogden Museum teaching artists, and engaging moment sessions.
Fine Art FUNdamentals, open to kids grade 2 through 5, will have two sessions–one taking place June 8 – 19 and the other June 22 – July 2–from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Prior to the beginning of the camp, Ogden Museum will deliver an Ogden Museum Art Box to each camper’s home that includes all the supplies needed for the camp’s projects. Throughout the camp day, campers will experience live and recorded daily video interactions offering opportunities to chat with teaching artists and participate in physical movement. Both sessions of Fine Art FUNdamentals will present a virtual celebration that showcases the campers’ artistic creations.
Additionally, a Photography Camp will be held from June 22 to July 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily for students grades 6 through 12. Campers will learn the basic elements of photography including composition, exposure, storytelling, and camera functions. In the second week, students will learn about intermediate and advanced areas of photography, culminating with a portfolio of edited work that will be shown at a virtual gallery tour.
Ellen Balkin, Director of Education for the Ogden Museum anticipates the new online summer program: “We’ve been hard at work designing our summer programs, and I’m excited about all of the creative and fun projects we’ve developed. Each camp offers flexibility and choices for families with lots of different types of engagements, both on- and offline! All activities in Fine Art FUNdamentals can be completed independently of the virtual sessions, and photography campers will have a variety of interior and outdoor photoshoots. Our campers will certainly be very active this summer!”
