OffBeat’s Spooktacular New Orleans Halloween Happenings 2020

This year is certainly going to be a Halloween holiday in New Orleans like no other and while we are sad Krewe of Boo is not parading this year, we’ve assembled some alternative fun for our Children of the Night. Read on for our recommendations for Samhain fun.

9th ANNUAL THRILLER FLASH MOB

What’s Halloween without Thriller?!  Of course we can’t disclose the official location yet but Participants can attend classes in person Thursdays 7-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays 2-3:30 p.m. at the Ann Burr Studio in Uptown leading up to the Thriller Halloween Flash Mob performance on Halloween Day, October 31, 2020 at 12 noon at a secret location. DAT DOG BARKTOBERFEST

Dat Dog at 601 Frenchmen Street has a full day of Oktoberfest/Halloween activities planned. Dogs and their humans are invited to dress up and eat, drink, and hangout in the courtyard any time from noon-4 p.m. October 31. Prizes will be presented by Dat Dog and local breweries and distilleries including Dixie Beer and Seven Three Distilling. Awards will be presented hourly for the most creative costumes. A virtual costume content will take place in the “cute n’ spooky” Photo Booth in the courtyard. Post photos to Instagram and tag @datdogus and a friend – the photo with the most likes will win a grand prize. Updates to this event will be posted here .

 

NO TRICKS, JUST TREATS AT BROUSSARD’S

Broussard’s Restaurant, 819 Rue Conti, is hosting a wickedly witchy Halloween brunch and costume contest October 30 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.. Guests are encouraged to don a costume, and mask, of course, and come enjoy the full brunch menu, spooky sparkling specials, and wickedly witchy themed cocktails. The jazzy sounds of The Gumbo Trio will entertain guests throughout the day. Drink specials include specially priced champagne by the glass and bottle and two spooky cocktails: the Tell-Tale Heart (Knob Creek bourbon blackberries, lemon honey-sage syrup), and Elphaba’s Elixir (crème de menthe dark, crème de menthe light, crème de cacao dark, crème de cacao light, heavy whipping cream). BILLY IUSO AND RESTLESS NATIVES HALLOWEEN MASK-UERADE AT BROADSIDE

Did someone say live music at the Broad Theater’s sister location? That’s right. Outdoor live music Halloween night. Costumes encouraged, mask required 7-10:30 p.m. October 31 at 600 North Broad. For more information, visit here.

d.b.a. SPOOKY LIVESTREAMS 

Spooky StageIt streaming from the d.b.a stages at 618 Frenchmen Street begins Thursday, October 29 with Dina and Malevitus. Friday October 30, Suplecs play at 9 p.m. Halloween day, Tuba Skinny performs at 1 p.m. and the evening concludes with Quintron & Miss Pussycat’s performance and puppet show at 10 p.m. All performances and tickets are available here.

OKTOBER FILMS AND FOOD AT DEUTSCHESHAUS

Just before the official holiday, the German center at 1700 Moss Street will be screening “Metropolis” October 28 at 7:30 p.m.and serving German treats like beer and pretzels. To make reservations and for more information, visit here. Prost!

 

 

FRIGHT NIGHT COSTUME PARTY AT SOULE CAFE

The Petty Shoppe retailer is hosting a Fright Night Costume party at Soule Cafe 2549 Banks St, New Orleans, LA 70119. Note: This event will be held October 24 at 9 p.m. so you have a chance to practice your costume. Entry is $20 and a portion of the proceeds will be used as a donation to the breast cancer awareness foundation. The best costume of the night wins a cash prize!  Tickets can be purchased here.

 

THE YARD’S WAKE THE DEAD COCKTAIL COMPETITION (2 NIGHT EVENT)

This two day event begins with round one, Devil’s Night, Friday October 30 at 7 p.m. The first night of festivities features bartenders from all over presenting cocktails featuring Red Bull as their key ingredient. The final round will take place during the official Wake the Dead Halloween party (7 p.m. October 31). Each person walking in the gate will receive a free sample of each cocktail and will vote on their favorite. The winner gets a cash prize and as a bonus, DJ Vladimir will be spinning in the courtyard. Prizes will be awarded for best costume and don’t forget that masks are required for entry! LA ADORNA’S HOUSE OF ECLECTIC SOULS

The buzzy pop up has changed her attire for the Hallow Season, as JAM artist La Adorna brings her bold

Gaga-esque craft couture to transform a place full of Instagram worthy photo ops. Guests can enjoy hauntingly beautiful private or semi-private guided tour of exhibits with professional photographers on hand to capture you and yours in your haunted Hallow’s Eve regalia nightly October 30-31. BOO CARRE AT THE FRENCH MARKET HALLOWEEN HAUNT

COURT OF TWO SISTERS HALLOWEEN VILLAINS BRUNCH

Who says you have to take the kids to Disney World to have a character themed brunch? Not the staff at the Court of Two Sisters who will do a Disney villain themed brunch October 31 from 9-11 a.m. We’re told Maleficient may be the star of the show. The event includes a three-course meal, costumed characters, and a themed photo booth (digital photos included). NEW ORLEANS NIGHTMARE HAUNTED HOUSE 

Scout Island Theme Park may not be operating this year but have no fear. You can book reservations (to ensure safety) at their two attractions in Jefferson. It’s a good thing there is a bar because there are two dreadful sights to see—The Creature Feature which stars Silver Screen horror fiends like Frankenstein and Deadly Reflections, a mirror maze reminscent of Ghoulies. Tickets are a must and start at $29.99 with $10 additions like Fast Pass. Tickets are selling fast though so book here now.
