papa maliOn Friday, June 28, Tipitina’s will present their l Free Friday Concert featuring the Papa Mali Trio and the James Martin Band. Papa Mali will bring his distinctive blend of swampy blues, rock and funk while Martin will bring his old school soul grooves with a modern twist. A celebrated saxophone player and singer, Martin boasts a prestigious career with performances at international festivals and significant contributions to the New Orleans music scene. He also  just released a new album. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the event is open to the public for ages 21 and over on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can learn more about the music series here.

On Saturday, June 29, Snug Harbor will host two performances by Yusa, the Havana-born guitarist, bassist, vocalist, tres player and composer. She relocated  to New Orleans in 2020 and has been spending time collaborating with many of the city’s most talented musicians. An original bandleader of Cuban bands Interactivo and Quasi Jazz, her compositions have earned her international acclaim, and her 5 albums have won her multiple awards, including one from BBC World Radio. Also on Saturday, June 29, Maple Leaf Bar will feature a performance by Funk Monkey with special guest Arsène DeLay. Known for their dynamic funk sound and energetic performances, Funk Monkey, along with the powerful vocals of Arséne DeLay, promise a night of groovy rhythms and lively entertainment. DeLay is known for her soulful voice deeply rooted into a unique blend of jazz, blues, funk and R&B.  The show starts at 9 p.m. with tickets priced at $15 in advance and $20 at the door.  Learn more or purchase tickets here.

Katey Red, podcast photoBJ’s Lounge in Bywater will welcome bounce music legend Katey Red on Saturday, June 29 at 9 p.m.. Joining her will be Benni and Lucas for a night of high-energy performances. Katey Red began her career in the late 1990s, quickly gaining recognition for her energetic performances and bold, unapologetic lyrics. She played a crucial role in bringing the underground genre of bounce music into the mainstream, influencing a generation of artists with her innovative style and fearless persona. Katey Red’s performance is a highly anticipated event that promises an unforgettable night of music and dancing. Tickets are available at the door for only $10.

On Sunday, June 30, The Broadside will host a special fundraiser featuring the Lost Bayou Ramblers and the Creole String Beans. Presented by Hardhide Whiskey, this event supports the Toups’ Family Meal Fundraiser a non-profit founded by Chef Isaac and Amanda Toups, with a mission is to bridge the gap of food insecurity in New Orleans. This summer they are focusing on feeding children while they are out of school. The event runs from 5 to 9:30 p.m. with tickets priced at $40.  Attendees can expect an evening of rich Cajun and Creole music, with the Lost Bayou Ramblers’ unique blend of traditional and contemporary sounds and the Creole String Beans’ deep Louisiana roots.
