Friday, August 30th, brings a dynamic lineup of local talent to NOLA Brewing for a night of free live music. Marc Stone, the blues guitarist, will be joined by the powerful vocalist Marilyn Barbarin, Zydeco icon Sunpie Barnes, and the eclectic keyboardist Keiko Komaki. This special Labor Day weekend show promises a vibrant mix of blues, funk and Zydeco. The 19th Annual Hurricane Katrina March and Second Line, organized by the Hip Hop Caucus and the New Orleans Katrina Commemoration Foundation, will take place on Saturday,August 31, to honor the lives lost and celebrate the resilience of the New Orleans community in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. This year’s events include a press conference advocating for the official recognition of August 29th as a state and local holiday. The commemoration continues with a march and second line through the Lower 9th Ward culminating in a rally with live music performances at Hunter’s Field. Read more about it here.
Rounding out the week, Brian Blade and The Fellowship Band will perform at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro on Tuesday, September 3rd. This $30, one-night-only event features two shows that offer a rare chance to see one of the most distinctive jazz bands of the 21st century. With their unique blend of jazz, gospel and folk, The Fellowship Band, led by the versatile drummer Brian Blade, has captivated audiences worldwide.
