Celebrate Mia Borders‘ birthday at d.b.a. New Orleans on Frenchmen this Friday, August 16, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Known for her powerful voice and blend of funk, rock and soul, Borders is a New Orleans favorite who brings passion and energy to every performance. This birthday celebration is a unique opportunity to experience her talent up close while joining in on the festivities. Birmingham pickers Mountain Grass Unit bring their Summer Tour to Chickie Wah Wah on Friday, August 16, as part of the Groovemaster Presents series. Mountain Grass Unit is known for their fusion of bluegrass with various musical influences from jam bands to jazz and everything in between. Their performances are marked by tight harmonies and impressive instrumental work, which you can preview here.  Fans of Americana and bluegrass will not want to miss this one. Tipitina’s is hosting another installment of their popular Free Fridays Concert Series on August 16. This week features performances by Billy Iuso and Pocket Chocolate. Billy Iuso, a seasoned guitarist and singer-songwriter, is known for his fusion of rock, funk and blues, drawing from the rich musical heritage of New Orleans. Pocket Chocolate will join him for a night of electric energy and soulful rhythms. Join Maddy Kirgo for her record release party at BJ’s Lounge in Bywater on Saturday, August 17, starting at 9 p.m. Kirgo, a standout songwriter in the local music scene, is celebrating the release of her first recording on Garhole Records. Known for her introspective lyrics and unique sound, Kirgo’s new album is highly anticipated, and this release party is the perfect opportunity to hear her music live. On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Tipitina’s hosts Russell Crowe’s Indoor Garden Party, featuring The Gentlemen Barbers and Lorraine O’Reilly. Academy Award-winning actor and musician Russell Crowe leads this unique musical experience, blending storytelling, folk and rock which you can preview here. The show includes a special Meet & Greet Experience, allowing fans to connect with Crowe and receive signed merchandise. This event promises a memorable evening with one of Hollywood’s multifaceted talents. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 8 p.m. for audiences aged 18 and up. On Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, Snug Harbor will present Grammy Award-winning musician Chris Thomas King in an intimate solo blues performance. Known as a modern blues griot, King carries the rich legacy of his late father, “Rockin” Tabby Thomas, while pioneering the fusion of rap and blues. With over two dozen acclaimed records and roles in films like Ray and the HBO series Tremé, King is a multifaceted artist and author.
