On Friday, fans of classic punk are in for a treat when Dayglo Abortions, known for their satirical and provocative style, come to Santos at 10 p.m. Formed in 1979, Dayglo Abortions has become a cult favorite in the punk scene, known for their raw energy and unapologetic approach to controversial topics​ Joining them on stage will be local bands The Pallbearers, Rade, and The Brothels, promising a night filled with rowdy, raw and rebellious punk rock. Tipitina’s Free Fridays Series continues on August 2 with the New Orleans Suspects and Vegas Cola. The New Orleans Suspects are renowned for their distinct blend of New Orleans funk, rock and R&B. Comprised of seasoned musicians from some of the city’s most iconic groups, including The Neville Brothers, The Radiators and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Suspects are known for energizing performances that include original compositions and creative covers.  The event, which starts at 8 p.m., is free to the public. Satchmo SummerFest

The Satchmo SummerFest, presented by the New Orleans Tourism and Cultural Fund (NOTCF), and sponsored in part by OffBeat, returns to the New Orleans Jazz Museum on August 3 and 4. The festival celebrates the life and legacy of jazz legend Louis Armstrong with live music, lectures, and exhibits. Attendees can enjoy performances from local and international artists, all paying homage to Armstrong’s enduring influence on jazz. The event is (once again) free and open to the public with performances by numerous notable New Orleans artists including The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Catherine Russell, and John Boutté. The festival will also feature sets from Brass-A-Holics with Flagboy Giz, NOJO 7 featuring Phillip Manuel, Detroit Brooks with a special appearance by Charmaine Neville, and Big Chief Donald Harrison with the ICONS, featuring Choppa, BlaqNmilD and Tonya Boyd-Cannon. On Saturday, August 3, 2024, Nai Palm, the lead singer and guitarist of the Grammy-nominated band Hiatus Kaiyote, will perform at the House of Blues at 8 p.m. Known for her soulful voice and intricate guitar work, Nai Palm’s solo performance promises to deliver a unique blend of neo-soul, jazz, and experimental sounds. She will be joined by Elliott Skinner, adding to the evening’s eclectic musical experience. RAM de Haiti returns to BJ’s Lounge in the Bywater on Saturday, August 3, at 9:00 p.m. with their unique blend of traditional Haitian music and modern rhythms. Known for their energetic performances and rich sound that combines elements of kompa, rara and jazz, RAM de Haiti has become a celebrated act in the city’s diverse music scene. The band’s fusion of Haitian heritage and contemporary influences resonates deeply with New Orleans’ own musical heritage, creating a cross-cultural experience that’s both exhilarating and unforgettable.Tickets for the show are only $15 and are only available at the door.

Also on Saturday, Tipitina’s hosts “An Evening with IKO Allstars” at 9 p.m. The IKO Allstars bring together talented artists in the region to perform the music of the Grateful Dead with a distinctive New Orleans flair. Drawing from a deep well of influences including jazz, funk and rhythm and blues, the group showcases the city’s iconic sound with a fresh and modern twist.  Tickets are available for $20 at the Tipitinas.com website.

On Monday, August 5, Joshua Bassett and Thomas Day will perform at the House of Blues in New Orleans. Joshua Bassett, who gained fame through his role on Disney+’s “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” has quickly established himself as a promising singer-songwriter with hits like “Lie Lie Lie” and “Feel Something.” Thomas Day, known for his soulful voice and powerful performances, first garnered widespread attention on “America’s Got Talent” (AGT).
