NOLA Throws, the Mardi Gras merchandise retail store, announced their inaugural “Kick-Off to Carnival Party,” a free community event celebrating local culture and the carnival season. The party will take place on Saturday, January 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their store’s location at 2325 Belle Chasse Highway in Gretna. NOLA Throws offers beads, plush toys, costumes, party supplies and more.
The festivities will feature Lucky Dogs and king cake, a live performance by The Roots of Music, free gifts for the first 200 guests, a $500 gift certificate raffle and more.
“Mardi Gras is a time of year where friends and family come together to enjoy the traditions we all love,” said Dimple Agrawal, owner of NOLA Throws, “As we look ahead to an exciting season of festivities, the Kick-Off to Carnival Party will give locals a fun event to do what we do best— celebrate our culture and give back to our community.”
NOLA Throws is giving back to the community by partnering with The Roots of Music, the local non-profit started by Rebirth Brass Band member Derrick Tabb. Roots was started as an attempt to work with local children from low-income households by exposing them to New Orleans music and to the marching band tradition, which has been the basis for so many of New Orleans musicians’ interest and pursuit of music as a career. The Roots of Music addresses disparities in education and income by providing comprehensive music and instrumental training, academic support, mentorship, hot meals, and round-trip transportation for 9 to 14-year-olds from low-income households. NOLA Throws will donate 10% of sales the day of the Kick-Off to Carnival Party to The Roots of Music.
