New Orleans music lovers and jazz aficionados are gearing up for the 2023 Danny Barker Banjo, and Guitar Festival set for March 7th to March 12th. The festival, which honors the late, great NEA Jazz Master Danny Barker, will feature a mix of live music performances, interviews, panel discussions, school clinics and a patron party the evening of March 7.
The festival’s main events will be held from March 10th to March 12th at the New Orleans Jazz Museum, with admission priced at $15 per day. In addition, an all-star Banjo and Guitar Summit will take place at Tipitina’s on March 9th. Grammy-winning vocalist Catherine Russell will serve as the festival’s artist in residence, performing at two shows at Snug Harbor on March 10th.
Danny Barker was a musician, singer, songwriter, educator, raconteur and author who played guitar and banjo with many top jazz artists throughout his 70-year-plus career. He also mentored numerous young New Orleans artists who have since rose to prominence, including Wynton Marsalis, Herlin Riley, Leroy Jones and Gregg Stafford. The festival aims to showcase and highlight his many contributions and accomplishments.
