Although Hurricane Harvey dealt a devastating blow to the people of Houston, one positive aspect to come to light has been the outpouring of support that has sprung forth in the storm’s wake. There has been no shortage of people reaching into their hearts in an effort to help our Texas neighbors rebuild. Local musicians have announced plans to come together with a benefit concert in an effort to raise money for the victims of the unprecedented flooding.
“From NOLA with Love: A Benefit for Houston” will take place on Wednesday, September 20 at Café Istanbul (2372 St. Claude Ave.) and will feature performances by Sam Price and the True Believers, Los Po-Boy-Citos, Smoke ‘n’ Bones, Margie Perez, Brent Johnson and the Call Up featuring Alvin Youngblood Hart, One Love Brass Band, Tom Worrell, The Tin Men, and The Dirty Rain Revelers.
Organized by local music educator and percussionist Boyanna Trayanova in partnership with the non-profit MusicSynergy504, the benefit will donate proceeds directly to the Global Giving Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. Attendees will also be able to give back by donating non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products, and cleaning supplies to Second Harvest Food Bank on site.
Tickets will be $20 at the door, which opens at 6p.m.
