Noah Young announces album release show with Khris Royal & more

This Friday,  March 22, bassist Noah Young and his band will celebrate the release of a new solo album, Splinter. Together with saxophonist Brad Walker, trumpeter Steve Lands, guitarist Danny Abel, keyboardist Sam Kuslan and drummer Alfred Jordan, Young will perform material from his newest release.

Founded in 2015, the Noah Young Band recently premiered a video for Splinter‘s title track on OffBeat.com. The inspiration for “Splinter” came from Avishai Cohen, an Israeli jazz double bassist, composer, singer and arranger. The group released its debut album, Start the Reactor, via Bubble Bath Records in 2017.

“My second full length album shows the band evolving from a funk/jazz/jam group, to a tight-knit ensemble more focused on composition,” Young says about Splinter.  “About half of the songs are short and concise. The album as a whole focuses more on the mood and vibe, and less on extended solos and long form songs. It’s jazz/fusion music catered towards the short attention span of the modern-day listener.” Young lists Cohen, Flying Lotus, RH Factor, Tigran Hamasyan, and Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah as inspirations.

Supporting the Noah Young Band at the release party will be special guests Khris Royal and Dark Matter. The release party takes place at One Eyed Jacks (615 Toulouse St.), with doors for the 10 p.m. show opening at 9 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are available here for $12.
