In today’s Weekly Beat, we draw attention to “Leopalooza” – a birthday bash for Leo Nocentelli at the Howlin’ Wolf on Friday night. The night is a benefit for the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic and will include music by Cyril Neville & Tribe 13, Stooges Brass Band, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Johnny Vidacovich , Earphunk, Tim Green, Jason Neville, Omari Neville, Caesar Bros., DJ Shatt, and more. One person who won’t be there is Nocentelli himself.

In a phone call this morning, he told OffBeat that the first he heard of the show was when he saw it in the Weekly Beat, and that the original Meters will be playing that night at the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco. He also sent along his apologies to his fans for any confusion and disappointment in connection with the event. We also pass along our apologies for any role we have in the confusion. We inferred from a night celebrating Nocentelli’s birthday that the birthday boy would in attendance, but on second look, we see his name was never explicitly promised.
