On Tuesday, September 11, take a journey in song through New Orleans history with a free event at Tulane University.
Nine Lives: A Musical Story of New Orleans, a concert based on the 2-disc musical adaptation of Dan Baum’s nonfiction bestseller of the same name, spans 40 years in the Crescent City, from Hurricane Betsy to Katrina. Singer-songwriter Paul Sanchez and screenwriter Colman deKay penned the stage version, with a soundtrack that runs the emotional gamut from traditional jazz and blues to Mardi Gras Indian chants and chamber music. An all-star band culled from the 100-plus musicians and singers who appeared on the CD will perform during Tuesday’s show, to be held at Dixon Hall (6823 St. Charles Ave.).
The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and can reserved online only at ninelives-tulane.eventbrite.com.
OffBeat previewed the show earlier this summer, during its sixth staging in New Orleans. Click here to read more.
