Nickel-A-Dance returns to Frenchmen Street this March

Nickel-A-Dance, the free family-friendly New Orleans traditional jazz concerts, will return to Frenchmen Street for its 26th year in March at The Maison. Founded in 1994, the concert series attracts a diverse group of fans to celebrate America’s original dance music, jazz.

The trad-jazz series began after three anonymous individuals combined their personal donations to pay for a traditional New Orleans Jazz band to perform for three hours during one Sunday afternoon in October at Café Brasil on Frenchmen Street. The event was free and open to the public, advertised by word of mouth to local traditional jazz fans.

It was a success. The event would continue to grow in attendance and sponsorship including Threadhead Cultural Foundation, the New Orleans Theatre Association and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.

The shows will follow the weekly Sunday tradition, starting March 5 at 4 p.m. at Maison, 508 Frenchmen Street. Admission is free but donations to the bands are encouraged.
