New Radio Station, WCWD-FM, Premieres on Northshore

Christwood and radio station WWNO are launching a new radio presence on the Northshore.

On Thursday, March 13, Christwood Retirement Community, the new station licensee, in conjunction with WWNO–New Orleans Public Radio, will launch extended public radio coverage to the Northshore via WCWD, 89.5 FM. Through this new station, the classical music programming available from WWNO will now be accessible on the Northshore. The station, licensed to Christwood, includes a broadcast tower centrally located in Covington.

WCWD will simulcast WWNO’s Classical programming, currently broadcast on 104.9 FM, HD2, and KTLN 90.5 in Houma-Thibodaux.

“The launch of WCWD broadens access to the classical music network, currently provided by WWNO, to listeners on the Northshore,” said WWNO General Manager Paul Maassen. “We
anticipate that our service will continue to develop and be a valuable community cultural service—all thanks to listener support.”
Christwood and WWNO will host an official launch event from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday March 13 to welcome the new station to the airwaves. Community members are invited to
come to the Atrium Gallery, 100 Christwood Boulevard, for a brief ceremony with local officials and an opportunity to meet WWNO staff.
