Acclaimed New Orleans’ soul/R&B/hip hop brass ensemble, The Soul Rebels, have officially announced and released their 2023 Summer tour schedule, beginning June 18.
The first stop on their tour will be Los Angeles, where they will play the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival with fellow New Orleans staple and “Queen of Bounce,” Big Freedia. This year, The Soul Rebels released a collaborative single titled “St. Thomas” with Count Basie, Nicholas Payton, Weedie Braimah, and Cimafunk. This was their first release of recorded music on streaming platforms in four years since their 2019 album Poetry in Motion, and now they are hitting the road for a summer tour.
The Soul Rebels tour will traverse the country, hitting 28 different cities, from Seattle to New York City and everywhere in between. Included on the tour route are multiple high-profile festivals, including the renowned Newport Jazz Fest in Newport, RI, where they will be accompanied by legendary rappers Rakim and Talib Kweli, whom many may know from his work with Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) as the hip hop duo Black Star. In addition, North Carolina-born emcee and hip-hop icon Rapsody will join the group at the Blue Note Jazz Festival in Napa, CA, alongside critically acclaimed jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold. The tour will close with two performances at the Blue Note in New York City, the first on September 21 and the second on the 24.
