New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane Returns

The New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane is set to enchant audiences from July 12 to July 21, bringing the timeless works of William Shakespeare to life through professional, classical theatre. With a mission centered on producing dynamic, text-based performances that delve into Shakespeare’s profound insights into the human condition, the festival promises an engaging and enriching experience for theatre enthusiasts.

Since its inception in 1993 by several dedicated Tulane faculty members, the festival has grown to become a cornerstone of the theatre scene in the Gulf South. It attracts a blend of local, national, and international talent, creating a vibrant cultural event that resonates with diverse audiences.

This year’s festival will feature a mainstage production of “Julius Caesar,” directed by Salvatore Mannino. Performances will run from July 12 to July 21, with a preview performance on July 11 at 7:30 p.m. The opening night celebration will take place on July 12 at 7:30 p.m..

Tickets for “Julius Caesar” are priced at $40.00 and can be purchased for different categories: Patron, Senior, Tulane Affiliate and Student/Theatre Industry.

Adding a unique flair to the festival, The Fools Ensemble will present “A Very Important Play” on July 17, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. for one night only. This performance merges the worlds of improv and Shakespeare, offering a creative and humorous take on classical theatre.

In addition to these main events, attendees can look forward to various lagniappe events—special activities and performances that add extra flavor to the festival experience. Another highlight is the Performance for the Schools program, which brings the magic of Shakespeare directly to students in the greater New Orleans area. This educational initiative offers professional performances designed to inspire and educate young minds.
