For a band that called the Seattle area home for many years, Nirvana sure seem to have a had a grudge against the town. If their 1993 In Utero track “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle” is any indication, frontman Kurt Cobain was looking forward to the day when Seattle native and troubled Hollywood starlet Frances Farmer returned to the “disease-covered Puget Sound” to “burn all the liars / and leave a blanket of ash on the ground.”
That sounds like it may be a bit too much, but plenty of Saints fans can certainly sympathize with the desire to get revenge on Seattle. The Seahawks knocked us out of the playoffs in spectacular fashion (curse you Marshawn Lynch!) in January of 2011, only to do the same thing three years later on their way to a Super Bowl victory. Somewhere in between all of that, they beat us by 27 points on their home turf during the regular season.
Speaking of home turf, those last three games were played amidst the notoriously deafening acoustics of Seattle’s Qwest Field, where many a team has struggled with the thunderous roar of the Seahawk’s fanbase. That won’t be the case this time around. Sunday’s match-up is set to go down amidst the notoriously deafening acoustics of New Orleans’ Mercedes-Benz Superdome, where many a team has struggled with the thunderous roar of the Who Dat Nation.
You get the idea.
Let’s hope the Saints have their revenge on Seattle this Sunday. After all, the NFC South is still up for grabs.
