The New Orleans Pride Parade will roll through part of the Marigny and much of the French Quarter on Saturday, June 10. Incidentally, the event will take place right after the World Naked Bike Ride, but that’s a different story.
Parade participants will line up at Washington Square Park in the Marigny between 6 and 6:30pm, with the procession starting at 7:30pm. The route will take them down Frenchmen Street before making a right on Decatur Street, which they will take down to Canal Street. From Canal, the parade will roll for the length of the French Quarter before making a right on N. Rampart Street. After five blocks, the parade will make a right at Toulouse Street and then, eventually, a left on Bourbon Street. It will terminate a few blocks later at Bourbon and Ursulines Avenue.
The Pride Parade is part of the annual New Orleans Pride Festival, an event that has existed in various forms since 1971. The festival features plenty of programming in addition to the parade, including dance parties, drag shows, rallies and family equality day. The parade, however, is the largest event of its kind in Louisiana, drawing roughly 2,700 participants and 70,000 spectators in 2016 (last year’s parade was also a memorial for the victims of the Pulse Nightclub attack). More information on the New Orleans Pride Festival and its various events can be found via its website.
