New Orleans Musicians to Host Benefit Show for Bernie Sanders

A group calling itself New Orleans Musicians for Bernie Sanders will host a show, donation drive and information event at 30/90 on Frenchmen Street on Saturday, February 27.

As of press time, the lineup for the performance includes Claude Bryant, Brian Stoltz, Russell Batiste, Joe Krown, Billy Iuso, Marc Stone, Jimbo Walsh with Smoky Brown, Phil Breen, Laurie Lehner, Josh Paxton and Janna Saslaw. More artists will join the effort in the coming days, and special guests are expected to appear at the show.

The concert is slated to take place following the New Orleans March for Bernie, which will bring supporters of the presidential candidate to Washington Square Park from 1pm to 3:30pm that afternoon. The show itself will then place from 5pm to 8pm, and will be free and open to the public. However, the performers encourage those in attendance–and anywhere for that matter–to make a donation directly to Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign. Laptops with internet connectivity will be available at the event to help people donate.

Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) is currently running against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic Party’s nominee for President of the United States in 2016. The senator was largely written off early in the campaign, though he has steadily risen in the polls and recently defeated Clinton in the New Hampshire Democratic Primary after losing to her in Iowa by the narrowest of margins.

A few more states will hold their primaries and caucuses before Louisiana hosts its primary on March 5. Sanders last held a rally in the state on July 26, 2015, when 4,500 people came out to see him speak at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner, LA.
