The New Orleans Musicians for Obama fundraiser, which took place on Tuesday, May 1 at Generations Hall, raised over $40,000 for the President’s re-election campaign. The concert, organized in part by Gaynielle Neville, featured local artists including Dr. John, Trombone Shorty, Irvin Mayfield, the Neville Family, Allen Toussaint, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Marcia Ball and Kermit Ruffins. Strategically positioned in between the two Jazz Fest weekends, the event capitalized on festival-goers who support Obama as well as the touring musicians who were in town for Jazz Fest. Proceeds from the event were donated to Obama For America, the president’s primary campaign fund.
