As the heat of summer fades, New Orleans is ready to ignite its vibrant music scene with the return of New Orleans Music Month in October. This celebration has quickly become a staple in the city, offering a wide array of unique events that spotlight the music, venues and people who make the city’s sound so special.
Jeremy Cooker, VP of Marketing & Special Projects at New Orleans & Company, highlighted the importance of this event: “The fact is while you can hear great live music on any given day or night in New Orleans, October gives us the opportunity to really celebrate the musicians, celebrate the venues and celebrate the people who make those special moments happen.”
This year marks the 4th anniversary of NOLAxNOLA and the 2nd edition of NOLA MusiCon, two major events that anchor the month’s festivities. Alongside these, more than 11 music festivals and countless performances will take place throughout the city.
NOLAxNOLA runs from September 26 to October 6 and is supported by New Orleans & Company and the New Orleans Tourism and Cultural Fund (NOTCF). Originally conceived during the pandemic, the event has grown into a massive celebration, with over 50 venues and 300+ events this year. NOLAxNOLA was first envisioned by music festival producer Sig Greenebaum and has evolved into a key part of the city’s cultural calendar.
Attendees can enjoy a wide range of activities, including Meet & Greets, a NOLAxNO Cover takeover on Frenchmen Street a Saints Watch Party, and a two-day music conference titled NOLAxNOLA Talks in partnership with Relix magazine. The lineup will also feature all-star tributes, including a Stevie Wonder tribute benefiting the Tip-It Foundation and an homage to New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint. The event will wrap up with NOLAxGrammy U, a showcase where music students from local universities perform alongside professional musicians.
Closing out the month is NOLA MusiCon, which runs from October 28-30 at the Marriott Warehouse Arts District. This must-attend event for music industry professionals, organized by Melissa and Kirk O’Brien, will bring together top talent and experts from across the industry. The lineup includes Grammy-winning producer Darius “Deezle” Harrison, Sarah Bromberg from Raedio, sync licensing coordinator Sierra Jordan from Heavy Hitters, and composer/producer Jay Weigel. NOLA MusiCon will feature panel discussions, interviews, mentorship opportunities, networking sessions, and more, providing a platform for emerging and established talent to connect.
