On Saturday, June 6, the New Orleans Jazz Institute will hold auditions for its summer youth program at the newly completed People’s Health New Orleans Jazz Market on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard in Central City.
The summer program, approaching its 21st year under the leadership of camp director Joseph Saulsbury, is aimed at providing music education and instruction for local students in 4th through 8th grade, as well as increasing youth appreciation for the arts.
The New Orleans Jazz Institute, which sponsors the summer program, is a partnership between UNO and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, and provides year-round musical education and training to youth of all ages.
The summer program takes place from June 8 to July 2, Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gentilly Terrace Charter School.
There is a $75 registration and camp fee, and need-based tuition waivers are available under special circumstances.
