Last summer, local guitarist Alex D’Onofrio created the New Orleans Guitar Night concert series at the Hi-Ho Lounge (2239 St. Claude Ave.). The series showcases talented New Orleans guitarists and strives to build a strong local community of guitar enthusiasts and players. Each show features solo sets from three performers who are given complete creative control to share their talent and passion for the guitar. New Orleans Guitar Night returns to the Hi-Ho Wednesday, Mar. 28 with three brand new performers from disparate musical disciplines.
Felipe Karrera Amestica is a classical, Latin American folk and Latin jazz guitarist. Originally from San Antonio, Chile, he studied classical nylon string guitar at the Catholic University of Valparaiso before traveling throughout South America to learn folk music from around the continent. He arrived in New Orleans in 2015 and has spent the past three years gigging around the city and touring throughout the country.
Molly Reeves is a New Orleans trad jazz staple, known for her acoustic chops, her hard-swinging rhythm guitar accompaniment and her gorgeous voice. She can usually be found on Frenchmen St. gigging with the New Orleans Jazz Vipers and other swing groups.
Steve Mignano is a rising star in the New Orleans blues rock scene, performing in the tradition of Muddy Waters, B.B. King, The Meters, Eric Clapton and Dr. John. He blends his guitar chops with soulful R&B vocals and a New Orleans groove.
The event runs from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.., has no cover and 21+.
