New Orleans will once again transform into a global hub of cinema and creativity as it hosts the 35th Annual New Orleans Film Festival (NOFF) from October 16-27, 2024. With over 150 films on display and more than 100 filmmakers in attendance, this Oscar®-qualifying festival promises a celebration of diverse storytelling, visionary directors and the city’s unique cultural energy.
The New Orleans Film Festival is recognized as one of the nation’s most influential platforms for emerging voices, particularly those who are underrepresented in mainstream cinema. This year’s lineup will feature 250+ filmmakers from around the world, offering audiences the chance to experience a rich tapestry of perspectives. The festival’s commitment to discovery is evident, with 90% of the films selected from submissions. This ensures that NOFF remains a place where fresh, original voices can shine. The festival also champions diversity, with at least 50% of its films directed by women and gender non-conforming filmmakers and 50% helmed by filmmakers of color.
New Orleans’ iconic charm and historic venues set the backdrop for the festival’s events, creating a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience. Attendees can expect an array of immersive activities, from a Second Line parade following the opening night film to live music in historic mansions and cocktail hours with panoramic views of the Mississippi River. Filmmakers, cinephiles, and industry insiders will mingle and make meaningful connections in the heart of Hollywood South.
The festival also fosters a strong sense of community. NOFF collaborates with over 50 non-profit organizations to distribute free tickets and host free screenings, ensuring that the festival’s transformative films are accessible to a wider audience of New Orleanians.
NOFF is one of the few film festivals that is Oscar®-qualifying in all three Academy-accredited categories, making it a launching pad for films with ambitions of global recognition. As over 12,000 attendees gather in the city, they will not only witness exceptional films but engage in the exchange of ideas, storytelling, and artistry that define the heart of New Orleans.
For 12 days in October, New Orleans will once again be at the forefront of film, culture, and creativity, leaving attendees inspired and with new stories to tell.
